Description
Formerly Zephyranthes longifolia . Native to Arizona, New Mexico, and far West Texas. Z. Longifolia has wire thin leaves and grows in sandy areas up to 5000 ft in elevation. The original seeds for these were collected in Southeastern Arizona growing in the sand dunes of a dry lake bed. The small yellow flowers bloom during the brief summer monsoon season, July through August, with even a few inches of total annual rainfall. Unfortunately I wasn’t quick enough with my camera when I met a rattle snake coiled next to these flowers!
